Producer Teases Future of ‘Encanto’ Franchise Will we see Encanto in Parks? What’s the scoop on Encanto’s future? Are we gonna get an Encanto 2 from Disney? Well, let me break it down for you. Encanto was a smash hit in 2021, with “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” topping the charts and all its songs making waves.

It was during Destination D23 back in 2021 when we got a sneak preview of Encanto. I remember it vividly, we sat in the room with the staff of D23, and in the theater with us was none other than Eric Goldberg, the longtime Disney animator. I remember thinking this was a great movie, but I don’t know who the market for this movie was.

At first, it didn’t do that great at the box office, raking in only $256.5 million worldwide. But then the soundtrack hit, and songs like “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” and “Surface Pressure” became international hits. When the movie hit Disney+, it was like a rocket going off, Encanto found its audience and it was worldwide.

But here’s the deal – Disney hasn’t given the official thumbs-up for a sequel or any spinoffs. All they’ve teased is a theme park land. Now, in an exclusive chat with The Direct, the producers of Disney’s new short, Once Upon a Studio, spilled the beans on what’s next for Encanto. Yvett Merino, who produced the first Encanto, said they’re looking at ways to keep the Encanto world alive, but nothing’s set in stone yet.

They’re teaming up with folks in publishing and consumer products, so it looks like they’re brewing up some ideas to keep the Encanto vibe going.

“I think we will continue to work on what that actually means. But we are so blown away by the reaction and how ‘Encanto’ kind of connected with so many people. We continue to look at different ways that we can keep the world alive. I know they teased a little bit of destination D23 about something ‘Encanto’ coming, possibly to one of the parks. And we love that…”

The producer continued, admitting she “[doesn’t] have anything official to say” but shared how she’s excited to see the franchise “expand across the company:”

“… There’s different—we’re working closely with our friends in publishing and consumer products to make sure—there’s always different ideas and needs and wants for, for it to stay alive out there. But I don’t have anything official to say, but I love the ‘Encanto’ world and can’t wait to see it expand across the company.”

As for an Encanto 2, it’s not in the works right now. Star Stephanie Beatriz, who voiced Mirabel, wants to jump back in, but the team’s busy with other projects, like Zootopia 2. So, we’ll have to cool our jets for another Encanto adventure.

What could Encanto 2 bring? Well, fans are buzzing about exploring the next generation of the Madrigal family and maybe delving deeper into their magical world.

While we’re waiting, Disney’s got “Wish” on the horizon, a fresh animated flick celebrating their 100th anniversary. It’s all about Asha and her super-charged wish for a star, so that should keep us entertained for now.
