Sarah Ferguson, The Duchess Of York, Makes an Appearance In Hallmark’s An American In Austen. Recently having been diagnosed with skin cancer, the Duchess makes a star turn in the new Hallmark Channel movie.
She takes a small role as of all things, the Duchess in the Netherfield Ball scene from Pride and Prejudice in this clever adaptation. If there is something that I can impress upon readers, is that I am a Hallmark fan, yes but I am an unapologetic Anglophile. I was so thrilled to see Sarah, The Duchess of York in this role. Seeing her made me jump off the couch and pay more attention.

An American In Austen is set to premiere on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, February 17 but fans were treated to an early release on the Hallmark Movies Now streaming service.
This movie is about a devoted Austenite who gets the chance to live out her Pride & Prejudice dreams when Harriet who is an American librarian feels that no man can quite live up to Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. When her longtime boyfriend surprises her with a proposal, she isn’t sure of her answer and flees. Exhausted, she falls asleep on the car ride home only to wake up inside her favorite novel.
Once there, she befriends her literary hero Elizabeth, and the rest of the Bennett family and wows them with her uncanny knack for predicting what will happen next. Soon, her peculiar behavior beguiles none other than Mr. Darcy himself.
As Harriet’s presence disrupts the story she loves most, she starts to question the fantasies she once held of Regency-Era life. Now, Harriet must choose between this unexpected chance at love with the man she’s always dreamed of or her imperfect life back in the real world.
An American In Austen stars Eliza Bennett (Harriet), Nicholas Bishop (Mr. Darcy), Nell Barlow (Elizabeth), Catherine Hannay (Jane), Erica Ford (Kitty), Grace Hogg-Robinson (Lydia), Calypso Cragg (Mary), Robin Weaver (Mrs. Bennet), Robert Portal (Mr. Bennet), and Toby-Alexander Smith (Charles Bingley).
As I have said previously, I am not a Jane Austen girly but the take on Jane Austen that Hallmark has always taken has made me appreciate the author’s works more and more. Harriet is scared of her feelings for her boyfriend Ethan, when he makes a huge romantic proposal. My takeaway was to treasure what you have like Harriet came to do. Will you be watching An American In Austen?
