FUNatics Review – ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Nostalgic And Cross Generational Fun. Yes, we have seen the critics reviews and scores and such but we went and saw this anyway. Here’s where we stand on this…More please!

Last night, I took my older two kids and we hit up AMC DINE-IN Disney Springs 24 and we saw the newest installment of the Ghostbusters franchise. We were all very excited to see this. We sat down together over the weekend and watched ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ in preparation.

We started seeing critics reviews trickle in and got a little nervous. Would they really ruin the franchise and break our hearts? Good news…the did not.

Now, I am a person of a certain age. I saw the original ‘Ghostbusters’ in the theater when it released in 1984. I played pretend that I was a Ghostbuster with my friend’s proton pack. I could quote it endlessly and still do sometimes. I have pretty big nostalgic feelings for that first movie. The sequel, meh, not as much. Maybe I need to rewatch it and see what my adult feelings are on it. The 2016 reboot was a total one and done watch for me. Just wasn’t my Ghostbusters.

‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ was total love at first view for me. It was all the feels. All of them! So on to my review of ‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.’ It was a solid 9/10 Ghosts for me! I loved it a lot and will go see it again! The addition of new cast was great. The og cast is always fun. The returning cast from Afterlife was fantastic again. I walked away happy. My kids laughed and that is always a bonus to me.

From Sony Pictures, In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an army of ghosts that casts a death chill upon the city, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.

The cast of this movie is Paul Rudd (Gary Grooberson), Carrie Coon (Callie Spengler), Finn Wolfhard (Trevor Spengler), Mckenna Grace (Phoebe Spengler), Kumail Nanjiani (Nadeem), Patton Oswalt (Dr. Hubert Wartzki), Celeste O’Connor (Lucky), Logan Kim (Podcast), Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Dan Aykroyd (Ray Stantz), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz), William Atherton (Mayor Peck), Emily Alyn Lind (Melody), and James Acaster (Lars Pinfield)

SPOILERS AHEAD!! You’ve been warned!

We rejoin the cast in the old Firehouse turned GB Headquarters. The Spengler family has taken up residence and are busting ghosts. Phoebe ends up getting benched by Mayor Peck for being only 15. She goes off and meets ghost girl Melody. Now, I’ve seen people upset by the interactions between Melody and Phoebe. It does seem that Phoebe falls for ghostly Melody but nothing is shown or actually spoken. If potentially queer storylines upset you, sorry. But I digress, we see Winston’s new lab where Lucky works and we meet scientist Lars. It’s a big space to hold more ghosts and study more things.

At Ray’s shop, we see that Podcast is in town and working with Ray on paranormal content. There we meet Nadeem who is selling his family’s artifacts for money. What he doesn’t realize is that he sold an orb that can cause the end of the world with an ice age. We find out that Nadeem is very important to solving the problems. Melody just wants to cross over and move on to her family so she uses Phoebe to release the big bad and cause the ice age from opening the orb.

Fun and chaos and emotions ensue. We see old friends, new friends, and yes lots of heart and laughs. Slimer and Ecto1 and silliness gives this a 9/10 for me. If you love Ghostbusters like I do, this is a great movie because Busting makes us all feel good!
