The team in Saints Marie lost one and gained one. We saw the epic departure of DI Neville Parker. Neville took off to see the world with former DS Florence Cassell. While sad to see them both leave, we are thrilled to see a new DI join the team.
BBC and Red Planet Pictures announced today that Don Gilet would be coming to the Caribbean starting with the 2024 ‘Death In Paradise’ Christmas Special then following in 2025 with a new season.
Don will be playing Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson. He will be arriving on the island of Saint Marie from London. DI Wilson will not be overly thrilled with his new surroundings. Will he come around to the area and team?
Gilet has recently begun filming in Guadeloupe, alongside returning Death in Paradise regulars Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine and Danny John-Jules.
Don Gilet says: “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!”
Don Gilet has an impressive resume. He’s well known in British television. He played Lucas on Eastenders. Don has also starred in things like The Beekeeper, Shetland, and many other roles.
Don Gilet has already been in Death in Paradise previously. He played Andre Morgan in the Series 4 opening episode, “A Stab in the Dark.”
