It’s Official – ‘Gavin and Stacey’ Are Coming Back One Last Time. If ever there was new that made my day, this was it. If you don’t know, I’m an uber-fan of the extremely funny and heartfelt ‘Gavin and Stacey’. Imagine my shock and joy when I opened Instagram this morning and saw that Ruth Jones and James Corden announced one more go around.
Posting a photo of themselves with the title page of a script, they wrote, “We’ll have: A chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan, nine poppadoms and the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey!!!
James Corden and Ruth Jones say: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James ❤️”
This news has delighted my soul. The last time we saw the Essex and Barry Island crews, was the 2019 Christmas special. This took place around ten years after the original show aired. That Christmas special ended with Ruth Jones’ character Nessa asking James Corden’s Smithy to marry her. We had no clue what Smithy said or what happened next. Needless to say, we all wanted just one more trip to this fantastic comedy.
The show stars Matthew Horne and Joanna Page as the titular Gavin and Stacey. It follows them from meeting and falling in love to getting married and navigating what that looks like with their respective families and friends in both England and Wales. Gavin is the only child of Mick and Pam from Essex. Stacey is one of two children of mom Gwen in Barry Island. Stacey’s uncle Brynn (name means Hill in Welsh) lives across the street. Nessa is Stacey’s best friend. Gavin’s best mate is Smithy. Smithy and Nessa have an interesting history. They have a child together.
I for one am very excited to revisit for one last and final installment. But it begs the question, will we find out what really happened on that camping trip?
